About this author

By day, Brendan Myers is a professor of philosophy at Cegep Heritage College, in Gatineau, Quebec. By night, he composes thought-operas. And sometimes he publishes them.

When I’m taking a break from writing another book, I like to play console-based role play games. I do this for perhaps no more than two or three hours a week, but over several years that was enough time to finish Elder Scrolls Oblivion, and Skyrim, multiple times. I’ve also played all of Dragon Age (I just finished Inquisition last week!), Mass Effect 2 and 3 (twice), all of Fable (gorgeous sce...

The Earth, The Gods and The Soul - A History of Pagan Philosophy by Brendan Myers
"This gave a concise overview of various philosophical movements across a very broad span of time. I was disappointed that this book was mainly a review of literature and had little of the author''s own philosophical thought. I am a big fan of Bren..." Read more of this review »

"The Sub-heading for this book is: A history of Pagan Philosophy, from the Iron Age to the 21st Century - and it certainly does what it says on the tin!

This is a weighty book and yet it is also a very lucid introduction to a vast range of philosop..." Read more of this review »
The Earth, The Gods and The Soul - A History of Pagan Philosophy by Brendan Myers
"As with anything written by Brendan Myers, there is a lot to chew on and much information to be digested, but he does it in a way that is so easy and readable that you don't realize that you are learning something new.

This book looks at the roots..." Read more of this review »

More of Brendan's books…
“To my mind, ‘magic’ is the hard-to-define quality of the things that stir up mystical feelings like amazement, curiosity, imagination, and above all wonder.

Magic is that which renders something beautiful in a spiritual sense. It is that which makes one feel as if the world is more than it is presently understood to be, and yet at the same time the world is working itself out in a good and beautiful way.

Magic underlies the relationship between us, and the greater immensities of birth and death. Thus the experience of being in the presence of something magical is an empowering, uplifting experience. Magic, understood this way, contributes meaning to life.
