“Shall we dance, da dum dum dum . . .” Aurelia is dancing around the room and performing acrobatics while singing songs from The King and I.
“Shall you tell them or should I?” asks yours truly.
“Hmm?” She steps onto a footstool and attempts an arabesque.
“Whose fault is it that I haven’t blogged in so long?” I prompt.
“Mine,” she answers.
No ducking the truth today. “And why is that?

“I am done living my life in the confines of others' dreams, waiting to live my own.”
Anne Osterlund, Aurelia

“When you have the same dream over and over again, your brain is trying to solve a problem. It knows there's an answer.”
Anne Osterlund, Academy 7

“Look, Aerin, preparation is only half the challenge of winning a debate.”
“And the other half?”
He had her now. “You have to choose the right side.”
“Your side, you mean.” She bristled.
“No, the losing side.”
“What?”
“Always choose the weaker side.”
“Why would I do that?” Doubt edged her voice, but now she was sitting erect, her feet flat on the floor.
“Because then you have further to go to prove your case.” He eased the feet of his chair down. “In a debate, there are two sides. If both make a good argument, then the less popular side wins because that side had further to go to prove its point. Simple logistics.”
“If you don’t care which side wins.” She frowned.
“It’s a debate. It doesn’t matter which side wins.”
“You mean it doesn’t matter to you.” The tone in her voice unsettled him. Or maybe it was the fact that that her criticism disturbed him at all.
“It’s a class,” he said. “The point is to flesh out the different sides of an argument.”
“And you don’t care if the truth gets lost in the shuffle. Don’t you believe in anything?!”
Anne Osterlund, Academy 7

Kate Mowery I'm happy to report your books are circing well in my library system. Most of our copies of Aurelia have been constantly checked out since we got them and there's a list for Academy 7 (on which I've been waiting impatiently for some time).

:)

P.S. Hope you enjoy it.

Christina Warf Thanks for adding me as a friend. I look forward to reading your book but, I still have to get. Lol. Thanks again for the add :)

message 23: by Angela

Angela Hi Anne! Thanks for adding me! I've had both of your books on my list to read for a while now and am excited to get to them soon. Is there going to be a sequel (or more) to the ACADEMY 7 story or is it a stand-alone book?

message 24: by Anne

Anne Osterlund Hi SpeedReader,

In my head, both Aurelia and Academy 7 are the beginnings of trilogies. I know this is probably overambitious for a new author, but what can I say? My characters, especially Aurelia who is very DEMANDING, are quite certain about the extent of their stories. My publisher has asked for something other than a sequel next, though, so I do not know how long or when I will have the chance to continue writing about Aerin & Dane.

message 25: by Angela

Angela How exciting! I hate waiting for the rest of the books, but love it when there's more of the story to find out. Here's to hoping that the sequels will be published sooner rather than later!

Miss Clark Thanks for adding me:) Is there anything we readers could do to help persuade your publisher to give the sequels a chance?

message 27: by Anne

Anne Osterlund Hi Miss Clark,

Thank you so much for the messages (I've been meaning to write back!) and for the offer of help! One of the things I have been recommending is writing up reviews for places like amazon and Barnes & Noble because bookstore demand for a sequel is one of the things publishers look for. I also keep copies of all the e-mails I receive so your message down below is actually helpful. If anyone would like to contact me via e-mail, they may do so at anneosterlund@yahoo.com

Other than that, just recommending for people to read and buy the books because, of course, the people who make marketing decisions have to look at sales figures, especially for sequels.

Anne

P.S. Dane, Aerin, Aurelia, & Robert really appreciate the support!

message 28: by Lindsay

Lindsay Paige Thanks for the recommendation!

Kate Mowery Way to be timely with the book recommendation, Anne. The Countess Below Stairs sitting on my personal Holds shelf at work waiting to be checked out. I'll check out the Reluctant Heiress when that pile gets a little less scary huge. :)

message 41: by Raquel (last edited Oct 20, 2009 07:26PM)

Raquel Hi Anne, I would love to be friends. I have to say, its so amazing to meet a person who actually wrote and got their books published. I aspire to be a writer someday too. I'm looking very forward to reading all of your books! When I saw your books, I knew I had to put them on my to-read shelf. I can't wait to go to Barnes and Nobles and buy them!

message 42: by Anne

Anne Osterlund Thanks, Raquel! Aerin, Dane, Aurelia, Robert & I hope you enjoy them!

Anne
(who is also always still amazed to meet people who wrote & got their books published)

P.S. It takes a lot of faith & time, but if you're willing to put in the time, it's absolutely doable. I think the key is really to let yourself commit to writing the book the very best you can without worrying too much whether or not it will be accepted. You can only do so much before it's beyond your control. But low and behold, if you do your absolute best, it's possible.

Kate (Nomalicious Reads) Hi Anne, thanks for the add :)
I'm looking forward to reading Academy 7 and Aurelia they are very high up in my to-read list and in fact I'm waiting for my latest pay check to arrive so I can buy them :)

De nada. Dane, Aerin, and I hope you enjoy! Robert and Aurelia are consumed with rescuing the kingdom at the moment, but I'm sure they'd be thrilled you were looking forward to Aurelia if they had time to think about it.
