About this author

Anne Osterlund grew up in the sunshine of Eastern Oregon and graduated from Whitworth College. She lives in a cute little yellow house with her new feline friend, Charlotte, and her own library of young adult books. She also teaches sixth grade and enjoys immersing her students in language, literature, and imagination. Anne has written three novels, Aurelia, Academy 7, and Exile, all published by Penguin Books, and is polishing a fourth. Unveil the intrigue at www.anneosterlund.com

Me: Hi, Beth.

She looks up from her own manuscript. There are about fifty pages (and a pen) in her hand and stacks of papers all over the table, but none on the floor. A definite achievement for Beth.

Beth: Hello.

Me: Umm. I have news.

She adjusts the grip on her pages.

Beth: Must not be good, or you'd be talking to Salva first.

Me: Why would you say that?

Beth: Because he's cares a...

More of Anne's books…
“I am done living my life in the confines of others' dreams, waiting to live my own.”
Anne Osterlund, Aurelia

“Look, Aerin, preparation is only half the challenge of winning a debate.”
“And the other half?”
He had her now. “You have to choose the right side.”
“Your side, you mean.” She bristled.
“No, the losing side.”
“What?”
“Always choose the weaker side.”
“Why would I do that?” Doubt edged her voice, but now she was sitting erect, her feet flat on the floor.
“Because then you have further to go to prove your case.” He eased the feet of his chair down. “In a debate, there are two sides. If both make a good argument, then the less popular side wins because that side had further to go to prove its point. Simple logistics.”
“If you don’t care which side wins.” She frowned.
“It’s a debate. It doesn’t matter which side wins.”
“You mean it doesn’t matter to you.” The tone in her voice unsettled him. Or maybe it was the fact that that her criticism disturbed him at all.
“It’s a class,” he said. “The point is to flesh out the different sides of an argument.”
“And you don’t care if the truth gets lost in the shuffle. Don’t you believe in anything?!”
Anne Osterlund, Academy 7

“His fear came from needing her. It was the danger to her life that frightened him.”

Ems (Darth_Chic) Just finished Academy 7 (only took me a couple of hours because I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!) and I'm dying to know if there's going to be a follow-up. Please say yes! And would it help to know that a sequel is the only thing I'm asking for from Cupid this year? :P

Marialys Marialys Scarano Hi, thanks for the friend request.
I really want to read your books, but I'm from Venezuela and it's kind of 'the hardest thing in the whole Universe' to get any book; not even in english, cuz there aren't deliverys to here. I'm writing Santa's letter to finally get Academy 7 o Aurelia.
Love the bookcovers and the summary.
Sorry for bad-spelled words, and all kind of mistakes :)

Anne Osterlund Hi Nicole,

Aerin, Dane, Aurelia, Robert, and I hope you enjoy their stories! I didn't know if I would like Leaving Paradise either. Generally am not a big fan of realistic fiction with "suffering" in it. But Simone's Perfect Chemistry series was such fun, I knew I needed to try this one. And I LOVED this first book.

Anne Osterlund Hi Casey,

Yep. "Adding" works. Or "inviting." And that is about the extent of my online book networking expertise:)

My characters--Aurelia, Robert, Aerin, Dane--and I hope you enjoy their stories!

And yes! Aren't the covers GORGEOUS? Michael Frost and Theresa Evangelista are amazing!

message 489: by Anne

Anne Osterlund Hi Teresa,

Aerin, Dane, and I are thrilled you enjoyed their story! And Aurelia and Robert hope you enjoy theirs as well. It's funny what a big difference expectations make on how much you can enjoy a book. I spent one summer going through a BOX of books (maybe 30) I had failed to read over the school year. The last book--the VERY last one--The Sword of the Land by Noel-Anne Brennan turned out to be the best one. So much for assumptions! LOL.

I would LOVE to write a third book! (Actually the first draft is already done). Aurelia feels it is absolutely vital that I finish her story, so it's possible I may have no choice in the matter anyway.

You're welcome for all the book recs. I LOVE recommending books--as you've probably figured out. LOL.
