I think what I had was a self-consciousness block: I was trying to write poetry, fiction, and humor. As soon as I started writing non-fiction, I got out of my own way and was able to work when I needed to. For me, it helped to feel a responsibility to represent other people and tell their stories. I think I simply needed a subject outside myself. (less)
