About this author

Truth may be stranger than fiction, but it's also far harder to track down. Jaine Fenn has sold short fiction to Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, On Spec, and a few other places, and has had three novels published in the UK: 'Principles of Angels', 'Consorts of Heaven' and 'Guardians of Paradise'. She has yet to sell, or buy, Truth.

I don't read much fantasy, and as my review of 'Devices and Desires' indicates, I'm pretty picky about what I do read, but this book lived up to the hype. It wasn't the mud and guts that did it for me - frankly if pseudo-medieval fantasy doesn't have...more

I admired this book, but did not enjoy it. Parker creates a convincing world with complex geo-politics, but everyone in this book is a total bastard. OK, not everyone: occasionally someone displaying one of those foolish human weaknesses like 'compas...more

I read this after finishing Ken MacLeod's Fall Revolution sequence, and it was a bit of a contrast. No subtext here, folks. But sometimes, mindless violence and weird alien biology is just what you want.

Richard Morgan's thrillers are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I mean, they're thrillers, and they've got (tut-tut) cyberpunk tropes, but hell, I like 'em.
This is the third Kovacs novel, and the action keeps on being cool, the protagonist continu...more

I was given this book for World Book Night, and I'm glad, as otherwise I might not have read it. It's a murder mystery set against the chaos of the English Reformation, and it did something I look for in my more usual SF reads: it took me to a new pl...more
