I am a New Zealander living in a town of 44,000 in the North Island. I left our largest city, Auckland, a couple of years ago to lead a more relaxed lifestyle. As well as writing, I work as a self employed employment relations consultant. My last employment in Auckland was in women's refuge and it was from that experience that I wrote a novel, Afinidad, about a serial killer who develops a murderous hatred of women because of a lifetime of abuse from his mother and sister. According to many experts, most violent offenders are made, not born, although a genetic predisposition to anti-social behaviour can be present that may have remained dormant if the child is given a nurturing, loving environment.
