S.J. Day's Blog

Eve of Chaos (Marked, Book 3) continues S.J. Day's good work, and is a hard book to put down. Her writing keeps you riveted, and the intriguing situations she sets up are just icing on the cake. If you can't accept the portrayal of archangels as power-hungry corporate heads whose archetypical position keeps them from feeling love but does the opposite to their libido, then you won't like these books. The rest of us? We're hungry for more.

Evangeline Hollis had a small accident, but in this incident, no carefully worded note on a windshield could placate the injured party. The roadkill, you see, was Satan's hellhound. Skipping all the other stages of grieving, the Foul Fiend goes directly to revenge, unleashing legions of Infernals to eviscerate poor Eve. Can a sexy vixen drafted by God find a way to strike a deal with the Devil? In the third volume of her Marked series, S. J. Day keeps the pages churning with steamy excitement.

I found myself online a lot while reading the book, looking up Biblical references. In this book, a whole host of evil creatures pursues Eve. But the biggest, baddest villain in the piece Is Satan, the big guy himself, who seems to want Eve for some mysterious purpose.

The Marked series is loaded with all kinds of archetypal references that make for great literature and valuable psychology sessions. God, Angels, Demons and the Mark of Cain all make for a grand stage on which a female variation of Cincinnatus stands in the breach daring all comers to try their luck. Between these concepts and the flat out unashamed erotic sex and comic book action of course Eve of Darkness will read like the great book it very nearly is. A kick-ass romp of sex and violence w...

EVE OF DARKNESS, the first book in the MARKED series, is a steamy, action-packed urban fantasy. I absolutely loved it! Brimming with sizzling love scenes, an apocalyptic theme, action-packed battles between good and evil, a spunky heroine, hunky heroes and plenty of imagination, this is one urban fantasy you will not soon forget.

Just as in its two predecessors ,EVE OF CHOAS was filled with thrilling adventure, suspenseful mysteries and a serious love triangle. Eve fans will definitely like this latest installment as it answers some important key questions from the previous two novels, all while opening the door for many new mysteries yet to come.

Urban fantasy is like paranormals but the background is gritty, there aren't always happy endings, and the romance is minimal compared to paranormal romance. I love this genre and I try to read as many as possible. Jennifer Rardin, Phaedra Weldon, SJ Day and Devon Monk are some of my favorite urban fantasy authors.

The action in this book is great. It was very intense all the way to the end, and I could NOT put it down. I loved Eve's independence, and the way she throws herself into everything head first. She doesn't just accept the turns in her life, she is looking for a way out, but knows that she has to deal with the here and now also. There are also a lot of great lines in the book. I'll leave my other favorite parts out, because they would be spoilers.

Having survived (more or less -- being painfully brought back to life counts as surviving, right?) the rigors of her introduction to the world of the Marked, where human sinners are transformed into demon hunters on a mission from God, overseen by the Archangels, Evangeline Hollis is off to "boot camp." While her lover, Abel, is assigned to hunt down a particular rouge demon, his brother, Cain, is pulled in to help when the trainees in Eve's group are murdered in particularly horrific ways --...
