Yes, I'm late. I hate the weeks before the holidays; there's suddenly millions of things to do and no time to do them. Anyway, I have the second guest post from author Simon Wood, and this one is even better than the first, I think. So enjoy!

I Want It Now, If Not Sooner
I suppose it's because of the times we live in—we can get anything we want and fast. Technology has placed the world in our hands. It's just as easy for me to communicate with my friends and family back in England as w...

(A side note: I was supposed to post Simon Wood's second guest post yesterday, but the day got away from me. Sorry. It'll go up Monday. Also, sorry this is so late. I slept until almost one o'clock this afternoon; hubs has been out of town for ten days (he got back last night) and I don't think I slept more than five hours a night the whole time he was gone, including weekends, so I was totally exhausted). Anyway,
Today is Agent Appreciation Day, in which we writers blog and tweet about how...

My Large cover images totally messed with the formatting of the site's front page, so in hopes of fixing that, I'm just adding this little post here.

Yes, I do indeed have covers for all three Downside books, so here they are!
UNHOLY GHOSTS cover
Next up is UNHOLY MAGIC (6/22/10):

The cover for UNHOLY MAGIC
And, last but not least, CITY OF GHOSTS (7/27/10):

City of Ghosts cover
Lookie there! They all have covers! Just like real books! Wheee!
I could have sworn I had some other news and stuff, but unfortunately I don't at the moment. And we're nearing the holiday season–well, I guess we're...

Today we have a special treat! I "met" Simon when we were both guests on that podcast show; he's a cool guy and a really good writer, and he graciously agreed to let me have a couple of articles for the blog. This is the first. The second one will be up next Thursday.

The Road To Publication – And How Not To Get Mugged Along The Way

By Simon Wood
The road to publication is long and without road signs. There's no one to hand you a map or rules to the road. So when every would-be author hits...

I believe this is the first excerpt anywhere from DEMON POSSESSED, Book 3 in the Megan Chase series, coming 2/13/10 from Juno/Pocket.
This is from Chapter 6, and the book takes place seven months after the events of DEMON INSIDE (which makes it almost a year after the events of PERSONAL DEMONS). I didn't want to post Chapter One, as that will go up on the site proper in January. (Also, if for some reason you haven't read DEMON INSIDE yet, keep in mind this excerpt contains a little bit of...

So Friday night my friend Jackie Kessler and I were invited to discuss the Harlequin Horizons situation on a podcast TV show. We readily agreed. I can't speak for Jackie's motives absolutely but knowing her as I do I assume they were the same as mine: to let people know that HWHo was a Bad Deal, that it is misleading, that it serves only to pour money into HQ's coffers on the backs of aspiring writers.
Joining us were two other commercially published writers, Simon Wood and Paul Clayton, as...

For those of you who haven't yet heard, yesterday Galleycat published a rather ridiculous opinion piece about how agents are unnecessary and they don't do anything and they're just evil old vultures and blah blah blah. The same crap we've heard before, in other words, although I find it fascinating that this piece was written by someone who last year–obviously unaware that I already had an agent and two book deals–offered to query agents on my behalf for the low, low price of $500.00, and...

Sorry the image is small; for some reason WordPress refused to give me the "Large" option, so it was either this or full-size, which is like 960 x something and thus huge.
But…here is a never-before-seen excerpt!:
The Mortons looked like any nice, normal semi-suburban family, struggling to make it all the way to that big cookie-cutter house with thirty feet of grass in every direction around it, but that meant nothing. In fact, it meant Chess needed to be more careful, more on her guard...

A little note in advance: I'm about to rant. I may rant at some length. I'm ranting about something other people have ranted about, as well. So be warned.
So here's what happened. Wednesday, the New York Times ran an article about the Kindle and how many Kindle owners are now buying more books than they used to. The end of the article contained the following paragraphs:
Ms. Englin has linked her Kindle to the Amazon account of some nearby friends, allowing all of them to read books like "The...
