"The first book to belong permanently to literature. It created a man."
-- From the Introduction
Few men could compare to Benjamin Franklin. Virtually self-taught, he excelled as an athlete, a man of letters, a printer, a scientist, a wit, an inventor, an editor, and a writer, and he was probably the most successful diplomat in American history. David Hume hailed him as the first great philosopher and great man of letters in the New World.
Written initially to guide his son, Franklin's autobiography is a lively, spellbinding account of his unique and eventful life. Stylistically his best work, it has become a classic in world literature, one to inspire and delight readers everywhere.

A mention of flatulence might conjure images of bratty high school boys or lowbrow comics. But one of the most eloquent - and least expected - commentators on the subject is Benjamin Franklin. The writings in Fart Proudly reveal the rogue who lived peaceably within the philosopher and statesman. Included are "The Letter to a Royal Academy"; "On Choosing a Mistress"; "Rules on Making Oneself Disagreeable"; and other jibes. Franklin's irrepressible wit found an outlet in perpetrating hoaxes, attacking marriage and other sacred cows, and skewering the English Parliament. Reminding us of the humorous, irreverent side of this American icon, these essays endure as both hilarious satire and a timely reminder of the importance of a free press.

The first American book on personal finance, The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin is still the best and wisest money book ever written. Originally published in 1758 as the preface to Poor Richard's Almanack, this little gem has been through innumerable printings and sold millions of copies to those in search of smart but entertaining advice about hard work, earning and saving money and debt. As the 21st Century charges along and the current economic climate continues to send out mixed messages, Franklin's simple but wise commentary on the value of industry and frugality resonates as much for us today as it did for listeners nearly 350 years ago. Here is a sample: • “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” • “If you would be wealthy, think of saving, as well as of getting.” • “If you would have your business done, go; if not, send.” • “Think what you do when you run into debt; you give to another power over your liberty.” • “Creditors have better memories than debtors.” Although older than the United States itself, The Way to Wealth is still very popular. It is handed out by major companies and financial institutions to friends, clients, and customers and is the January, 2004 selection of The Washington Post's the Color of Money Book Club. As Michelle Singletary, director of the Club wrote in a column about The book, “At just 30 pages, this pocket–size book takes less than an hour to read but will give you a lifetime of financial wisdom—that is if you're wise enough to follow the advice.”

You are holding the only modern adaptation of Benjamin Franklin's 18th century autobiography. It is at its heart one of the greatest business stories ever told.
The most versatile Founding Father was a husband, a father, a writer, an inventor, a statesman, a fundraiser and a military leader. But in his mind, he was first and foremost a businessman. Franklin's captivating adventures include his almost single-handed responsibility for establishing the first media empire, the first public library, the first fire brigade, the University of Pennsylvania, the first book club and the first franchise - all of which are detailed within these pages with Franklin's characteristic mix of humility and pride.
Franklin chronicles his own story, from his early days growing up in colonial Boston to his retirement from printing and growing involvement in national politics. It was during these years that he honed his management and leadership skills, acquired a fervent distaste for tyranny of all types, embraced a strong set of morals, and developed an uncompromising work ethic. From the moment he fled his tyrannical master and set himself up as a printer in Philadelphia, all who came into contact with Franklin recognized his destiny.
His wisdom transcends the ages - and his life lessons are insights are as compelling today as ever.

Benjamin Franklin's classic Poor Richard's Almanac is chiefly remembered for being a repository of Franklin's aphorisms and proverbs, many of which live on in and are commonly used today, and have been newly typeset and included in this edition.
These maxims typically counsel thrift and courtesy, with a dash of cynicism.
The orginal Almanac also included the calendar, weather, poems, and astronomical and astrological information that a typical almanac of the period would contain - those sections are typically of little interest to the modern reader and are not contained in this edition.

Statesman, scientist, philosopher, printer, and civic leader, Benjamin Franklin was also the most powerful writer of his time. From his first appearance in print, in the guise of the eccentric, opinionated, voluble "Silence Dogood" (1722), to his last published article, a searing satire against slavery (1790), he covered every aspect of "the question of America" with radiant clarity, wit, and penetration.

This collection begins with items written by Franklin during his early years in Boston and London (1722- 1726), including the complete "Silence Dogood" essay series. The volume also includes the famous "Busy-Body" essays (1728-1729); many of the news articles and essays he penned after he purchased the failing Pennsylvania Gazette (which eventually became the most widely read newspaper in the colonies); and various political satires, pamphlets, and personal correspondence written while he lived in Philadelphia from 1726 to 1757. The book concludes with material he published while a diplomat in London from 1757 to 1775 (including letters to the press, satires, and pamphlets).

Controversial in his own time, and the subject of vigorous debate ever since-to Matthew Arnold he exemplified "victorious good sense," while to D. H. Lawrence he was "the first dummy American"-Franklin emerges in this collection as a figure of extraordinary complexity for readers to discover, consider, and appreciate anew.

A companion volume includes Poor Richard's Almanack, Franklin's classic Autobiography, and his later writings.

Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography is one of the greatest autobiographies of all time—but it was incomplete. Franklin ended his life’s story in 1757, when he was fifty-one. He lived another thirty-three eventful years, serving as America’s advocate in London, Pennsylvania’s representative in the Continental Congress, and America’s wartime ambassador to France. Here is the rest of the story, in Franklin’s own words.
One of the most fascinating of our founding fathers, Franklin was a polymath, a practical statesman, and an incomparable cynic and wit. The Compleated Autobiography by Benjamin Franklin, faithfully compiled and edited from Franklin’s papers, reveals why he became a spokesman for American independence as well as his views on the Constitution, such fellow patriots as Adams and Jefferson, on French women, and more.
Mark Skousen is a descendant of Benjamin Franklin through Franklin’s grandson Louis Bache.

WEALTH AND WISDOM unites two classics of the American spirit that have influenced generations of readers and authors and helped define self-help writing. The Way to Wealth, originally a preface to the 1758 edition of Franklins beloved Poor Richards Almanack, presents a brief fable of a local wise man, Father Abraham, quoting Poor Richard to an eager crowd. The set-up allows Franklin to collect all of his famed maxims about wealth, knowledge, virtue and all other elements of business success. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin offers Franklins life storyat least the first few decades, as he died without finishing itas he tries to identify and develop a formula for personal success. Included is the popular Art of Virtue, in which Franklin lists the 13 qualities he hoped to possess: Temperance Silence Order Resolution Frugality Industry Sincerity Justice Moderation Cleanliness Tranquility Chastity Humility An early and influential advocate of the idea that any of us can create in ourselves the greatness to which we aspire, Franklin speaks across the centuries to self-help listeners as clearly and practically as ever.

<div>This engaging book reveals Benjamin Franklin’s human side—his tastes and habits, his enthusiasms, and his devotion to democracy and the people of the United States. Three hundred years after his birth, we may remember Franklin’s famous Autobiography, or his status as framer of the Declaration of Independence and the peace with Great Britain, or his experiments in electricity, or perhaps his sage advice on diligence and thrift. But historian Edmund S. Morgan invites us to meet the man himself, a sociable, good-natured, and extraordinary human being with boundless curiosity about the natural world and a vision of what America could be.

Drawing on lifelong research in the vast Franklin archives, Morgan assembles both famous and lesser-known writings that offer insights into this founding father’s thinking. The book is organized around four major themes, each with an introduction. The first section includes journal excerpts and letters revealing Franklin’s personal tastes and habits. The second is devoted to Franklin’s inexhaustible intellectual energy and his scientific discoveries. The third and fourth chronicle his devotion to serving the people who became the United States both before and after the Revolution and to advancing his democratic vision of their future. Franklin’s humanity and genius have never seemed more real than in the pages of this appealing anthology.</div>

Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography ends in 1758, some thirty years before he died. Those three decades included some of the statesman's greatest triumphs, yet instead of including them in his memoir, Franklin spent the years continually revising his original text.
Paul Zall has created the first autobiographical account of Franklin's entire life. By returning to a newly recovered early draft of the Autobiography, he strips away later layers of moralizing to reveal the story as Franklin first wrote it: how a poor boy from Boston used words and hard work to become America's first world-class citizen. To cover Franklin's career as a diplomat and as the only signatory of all three key documents of the American Revolution, Zall interweaves autobiographical comments from Franklin's personal letters and private journals.
Franklin emerges as different from the common perception of him as a crafty “Man of Reason.” His raw words reveal the bitter infighting among both British and American politicians and his personal struggle with his son's choice of the opposite side in the fight for the future of two countries. Without the veneer of second thoughts, his lifelong struggle to control his temper carries greater poignancy, as do his later years spent nursing his wounded pride.
Susceptible to both fallibility and frustration, the honest Franklin depicted in his own words nevertheless remains an uncommon common man, perhaps even more so than previously thought.

From the days of farmer's bartering for bushels of corn to establishing the concept of credit, this practical guide gets at the root of the subject of money: why it exists and, more importantly, what money really is. THE ABC OF MONEY is an undiscovered gem offering a wealth of knowledge and Carnegie's shrewd philosophies on the subject - a fascinating look at the history of "debased coin" and "greenbacks," and the value of currency from one of the great American industrialists. ANDREW CARNEGIE (1835-1919) was an American industrialist and philanthropist. His previous works include "The Gospel of Wealth" (1889) setting forth his idea that rich men are "trustees" of their wealth and should administer it for the good of the public. Carnegie's benefactions (totaling about $350 million) included Carnegie Hall (1892) in New York City, the Carnegie Institution of Washington (1902), the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission (1904), the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching (1905), the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (1910), and over 2,800 libraries. ~ ~ ~ BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (1706-1790) composed "The Way to Wealth" composed this essay for the twenty-fifth anniversary issue of Poor Richard's Almanac, the first issue of which, under the fictitious editorship of "Richard Saunders," appeared in 1733. Franklin brought together the best of his maxims in the guise of a speech by Father Abraham. Though it is frequently reprinted as "The Way to Wealth," it is also know by earlier titles: Poor Richard Improved and Father Abraham's Speech.

Automatic Wealth, The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind-Including:As a Man Thinketh, The Science of Getting Rich, The Way to Wealth and Think and Grow Rich

The Bestsellers on this Book give sound advice about money or how to obtain it. Just shoot to the stars and stay focused on your dreams and it will happen. There is nothing that we can imagine, that we can't do. So what are we waiting for, let's begin the journey of self fullfillment.

    4 Bestsellers in 1 Book:

As a Man Thinketh by James Allen
    Your thoughts and your dreams determine what you are and what you will be. This little book is meant to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that they themselves are makers of themselves, by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage. Contents: Effect of Thought on Circumstances; Effect of Thought on Health and Body; Thought and Purpose; Thought Factor in Achievement; Vision and Ideals; Serenity;

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles,
THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophize afterward. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action, without going into all the processes by which those conclusions were reached.

The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin
The first American book on personal finance, The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin is still the best and wisest money book ever written. Originally published in 1758 as the preface to Poor Richard' s Almanack, this little gem has been through innumerable printings and sold millions of copies to those in search of smart but entertaining advice about hard work, earning and saving money and debt. As the 21st Century charges along and the current economic climate continues to send out mixed messages, Franklin' s simple but wise commentary on the value of industry and frugality resonates as much for us today as it did for listeners nearly 350 years ago. This book is very short, but he gets to the point.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
"Whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve." Napoleon Hill
Be prepared, therefore, when you expose yourself to the influence of this philosophy, to experience a CHANGED LIFE which may help you not only to negotiate your way through life with harmony and understanding, but also to prepare you for the accumulation of material riches in abundance. Teaching, for the first time, the famous Carnegie formula for money-making, based upon the THIRTEEN PROVEN STEPS TO RICHES.
Organized through 25 years of research, in collaboration with more than 500 distinguished men of great wealth, who proved by their own achievements that this philosophy is practical.

The last two weeks covered by this volume represent a new chapter in Franklin's career: Minister Plenipotentiary to the French Court. For the first 14 weeks, however, the work of the American commissioners, Franklin, John Adams, and Arthur Lee, goes on as usual, although in an atmosphere of uncertainty and distrust as news of the abolishment of the commission reaches Paris in late November. In addition to the bickering within the commission, Ralph Izard, commissioner designate to Tuscany, continues to irritate Franklin who, in response, writes one of his most brilliant and witty invectives, "The Petition of the Letter Z." Much of the diplomatic story of this volume concerns the implementation of the Treaty of Alliance and the Treaty of Amity and Commerce. While those documents demonstrate France's support for the American cause, putting them into practice is still to be achieved. American merchants seek French convoy protection for trade to North America, trade that is essential to paying for the war. And owners of privateers seek a resolution of the legal dilemma in which they are caught because of recent French admiralty regulations governing retaken prizes. But Franklin's role as American minister does not confine him to the world of accounts and routine correspondence. On the contrary, in this volume we see clearly Franklin the American scientist and man of letters in the world of the French Enlightenment. In December, for example, he returns to earlier scientific interests, writing in French a paper on the aurora borealis for presentation to the Academie des Sciences. He begins 1779 reinvigorated, productive and attentive to his new responsibilities.

The decade of the 1720s witnessed major changes in American culture. In his activities during the latter half of the decade, John Adams (1705-1740) reflected some of the dynamics of the time. A Congregational minister in Newport, this member of the Harvard class of 1721 became involved in an ongoing debate within his faith over which people are qualified to receive Holy Communion. During this time, Adams wrote poems and essays. Influenced by Addison, Dryden, and pope, among other recent or current British authors, Adams helped introduce neoclassical verse and the sophisticated Addisonian essay to American literature. Adams was more successful as a writer than as a clergyman. As a poet, he wrote a series of generally impressive personal poems, crafted effective images, created a memorable melancholic, composed a substantial poem in the Blackmorean mode, and translated parts of the Bible and Horace. Most of his poems were collected and published posthumously under his name in 1745. With his Uncle Matthew Adams and Mather Byles, John Adams participated in "Proteus Echo", the second essay series to appear n American newspapers. Although Adams was indebted to the past -- writing a substantial number of religious poems, for example -- he was in the vanguard of his day, especially as an author. Accordingly, he warrants consideration as a significant American figure of the 1720s, a decade when the culture was changing from primarily religious to secular.

<div>This volume covers the five-month period ending January 20, 1783, when Britain signed preliminary articles of peace with France and Spain, and Britain and the United States declared a cessation of hostilities, effectively ending the American Revolution. Most of the volume deals with the deliberations that brought about this momentous turn of events.
Franklin had worked tirelessly since the previous April to negotiate a peace treaty, employing his diplomatic arts so as to mollify both the British and the French. For the final rounds of negotiations conducted in the fall of 1782—a day-by-day drama of difficult discussions and not infrequent setbacks—he was joined by John Adams, John Jay, and Henry Laurens. Finally, on November 30, the Americans signed a preliminary peace treaty with Britain that would take effect when Britain, France, and Spain signed treaties of their own.</div>

In the months covered in this volume of this long-standing series, Benjamin Franklin continues his tenure as sole minister plenipotentary to the French Court. The volume begins with the toasts of Franklin's Independence Day party, and goes on to record the documents of diplomatic and naval events during these four months. Many of the figures who appear are familiar from previous volumes (Arthur Lee, John Paul Jones, Madame Brillon, Richard and Sally Bache). The volume also provides glimpses of the private and often whimsical Franklin: listening to Morellet's drinking song; presenting a ceremonial sword to Lafayette; telling the story of how he introduced high-quality English paper into the French printing business; and even a passing reference to Robinson Crusoe.
