With a nineteen-year history of making bold yet astonishingly accurate forecasts, it is little wonder that when Dr. Stephen Leeb speaks, smart investors take heed.
In his 1986 book, Getting in on the Ground Floor, Dr. Leeb prophesied the great bull market of the 1990s. In his 1999 book, Defying the Market, he warned investors of the coming collapse in technology shares. And in February 2004, when crude oil cost under $33 a barrel, Dr. Leeb’s book The Oil Factor predicted soaring energy prices were just around the corner.
Now, in THE COMING ECONOMIC COLLAPSE, Dr. Leeb proves that the U.S. economy is standing on the brink of the biggest crisis in its history. As the fast-growing economies of China and India push global demand for oil beyond production capacity, Americans will experience a permanent energy shortfall far worse than the one in the 1970s. The result will be severe financial hardship for most people, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for investors to become incredibly rich.
Backed by meticulous research and analysis, Dr. Leeb exposes the psychological "groupthink" that has caused leaders in government, Wall Street, the oil industry, and academia to ignore the approaching crisis, until now when it is almost too late. He debunks the myth that petroleum supplies are limitless, and reveals the truth about an alternative energy source that is fast becoming cheaper than oil. In addition, he offers practical solutions such as:
· The #1 skill investors need, and why advice from most financial experts will prove disastrous
· How to make a fortune in oil, gold, and other inflation-sensitive sectors
· Today’s leading alternative energy stocks, the new super-growth industry
· Steps the government must take immediately to avoid crippling energy shortages.

Financial guru Stephen Leeb shows how following oil prices can lead investors to real financial security. A storm is coming-an inflationary 'perfect storm' whipped up by skyrocketing oil prices that will lay waste to millions of portfolios if investors don't prepare.Renowned financial advisor Stephen Leeb asserts that in this perilous period, oil prices will drive all other economic indicators. But there is a way to diversify away from disaster, by dedicating a significant part of one's portfolio to real assets that keep their value relative to inflation. Here, Leeb helps readers pick the 'energy-producer star performers,' and reveals the 'double payoff' to investing in metals like platinum and silver. He also explains why the stocks of 'mega-insurers' are a safe bet, and shows how investing in real estate does not have to mean actually owning it. Filled with sound advice for an unstable marketplace, this is the book no one with a 401K can afford to miss.

In the world of technology, one of the best-known maxims is Moore's Law, a 1965 prediction by the cofounder of Intel, which states that computer chips will double in speed and power every 18 months. For many, Moore's Law has come to symbolize the idea that all aspects of technology--from medicine to weather prediction--will continue to move forward at the startling rates we've grown used to. In Defying the Market, investment guru Stephen Leeb presents a different interpretation. He notes that people back in the 1960s continued smoking, even when they knew it would make them sick, because they felt sure science would find a cure for cancer by the time they got it. As we all know, the cure hasn't been found, and Deeb feels that most technological innovation has in fact ground to a halt. Science, he argues, is limited by the fact it depends on computers to make new discoveries. But we can't really make computers any smarter--only cheaper and faster.
In addition to a technological slowdown, Leeb also sees an unabating demand for worldwide economic growth. Put these two phenomena together, and you've got inflation, which is not entirely bad news for investors. He predicts that oil and gold stocks will rise from the modest positions they've held in the low-inflation '90s; that computer stocks like Dell and Gateway will falter because, as prices rise, users won't feel a need to pay for incremental improvements in speed and whiz-bangery; and that while only the largest tech companies--such as Microsoft and Cisco--will continue to profit, food companies such as Pioneer Hi-Bred and tractor maker Deere Co. are better bets.
This is one of the most contrarian, challenging books an investor can read. One can imagine the rebuttals pouring in from the scientific, economic, and investment worlds. But if he's right, those who heed Leeb's advice stand to make more money than a Deere tractor can pull. --Lou Schuler
