WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BOOK PIRACY
By: Claire Ryan
Okay, we all know about this. Piracy, the great and terrifying force that’s destroying authors’ means to make a living on one hand, and getting their work in front of thousands of new readers on the other. There’s plenty of conflicting infor... Read more of this blog post »
Guess which of the following happened to me yesterday. Hint, it was more than one. I’ll draw names from the correct guesses and you can pick a book from my backlist on me.
1. Got out of bed and stepped in cat yak (which, hey, isn’t that what everyone wants to do first thing in the morning?)
2. Nea...Read more of this blog post »

I never used to believe in “writer’s block.” Part of me still doesn’t want to think it exists, that its something we writers have to power through. There have been times in the past where a story has been difficult for me, where I didn’t know what happened next. I rarely had a deadline or readers...Read more of this blog post »

It's their shiny new fanfic platform so "writers" who can't quite get it together to create a milieu, settings, conflicts, arcs, or characters can still make money from their literary masturbation. For the record, I am pro-masturbation. I just don't want to s... Read more of this blog post »
There are a lot of perks to raising kids in a small Southern town like Greenwood, MS. But if you asked my kids what the best part of living here is, they’d all list in their top three things they love— the mailman. In an age of e-mail, text messages, and instant messages, here in Greenwood, rea...Read more of this blog post »
If you follow me on twitter, then you probably saw me post a picture of the US hardcover of Charm & Strange that I received in the mail yesterday. It is so very pretty and special to see. It’s also a sign that the book will actually be published very, very soon.
However, if you’d like to get...Read more of this blog post »

Yesterday I flew into San Francisco in the early morn. I was picked up by yet another incredibly hilarious media escort, a professional musician named David Golia. His wife–he gave me one of her CDs–is a bodybuilding, accordion-playing, seismologist who performs under the name Big Lou.

FIX THE PAST…SAVE THE FUTURE
In the fall of 2011, I got a phone call from Scholastic, asking if I was interested in a book series they were putting together. “History is broken,” they said, “and these breaks are leading to a coming Cataclysm in which the world will be destroyed. Three kids travel...Read more of this blog post »
Let me first start this post by saying I know a little about book packaging, but purely from the outside in--through knowing authors who've done it as work-for-hire and people who worked at packaging houses and as a general "watcher of the industry" and articles that get written about it. None of...Read more of this blog post »
My last post got me thinking about what a great community we have as writers. So much, in fact, that I had to cut myself off to actually get to the point of that post. But it was at that point I decided I might as well dedicate a whole other post to it. Also, this is my 200th post! So I’m pretty...Read more of this blog post »
Apparently, the creator of the gif says that the term is pronounced like the peanut butter brand, Jif. I can’t see how this can be true because, as Salvador Rodriguez points out in his article: “But why “jif” and not “gif?” I mean, its a “graphical” interface format, not a “jraphical” one, right?...Read more of this blog post »
Two years ago, this month, I indie published Rock and a Hard Place. So many wonderful things have happened since then, including three more books. I’ve been so busy with SOUL OF SWORDS that I forgot to post ebook sales for April 2013! Let’s rectify that:
This is down from the 7,084 of March 2013, but up from the 3,521 of April 2012. I suspect the drop came for three reasons. First, I haven’t released anything new since March. Second, Ap...Read more of this blog post »
Amazon recently unveiled Amazon Worlds, a platform through which they intend to monetize fanfiction. Intellectual Property owners license their franchises to Amazon Worlds, who in turn allows fanfic authors to write derivative works.
A few things about the press release caught my attention.
